In October 1964, Bruce F. Meyers, winner of the Art Center School in Los Angeles, imagined this first Buggy based on a Volkswagen. The Californian had many imitators and over time. American, British and German small car manufacturers (including Karmann) adapted the principle: take a VW Beetle at the end of its life, “skin” it, shorten it and rebody it, equipped with a more powerful engine.
