The Crown Victoria (here, the last 1998-2011 generation) was the mascot model of the police and taxi companies. This 5.38 m/212 in-long sedan was equipped with a 4.6-litre V8 delivering either 224 or 239 hp. Ford’s Interceptor department oversaw the transformation of the car for the police. This 2001 model year appears in “Dexter”, a TV series originally released in October 2006.

C’est sous cette forme revue en 1977 que la Monaco, dont le nom était utilisé depuis 1965, terminera sa carrière en 1978. Le groupe Chrysler connaît alors une grave crise et fait le ménage dans ses modèles. Née en coupé, la Monaco sera déclinée en berline et break dès 1966. Celle reproduite ici en taxi, figure dans le 3ème volet de la série Rocky (L’œil du tigre), sorti au cinéma en 1982.

Présentée fin 1976, cette Caprice est un incontournable de la production américaine. Au départ aussi présente chez Buick (LeSabre), Oldsmobile (Delta 88) et Pontiac (Bonneville), elle a joué les prolongations chez Chevrolet jusqu’en 1991 notamment grâce à ses versions destinées à la Police. Celle-ci, datée de 1987, apparaît dans le film “Fargo” des frères Cohen, sorti en 1996.

Launched in the USA on April 17, 1964 as a 1965 model year, the Mustang is immediately tremendously successful: 680,000 units are manufactured in the first 18 months! The two-door hardtop variant represented three quarters of the sales volumes, far more than the 2-door fastback or the convertible. The model we have here appeared in “Creed II” with Sylvester Stallone, released in 2018.

After World War II, Ford quickly resumed production in the United States. In 1949, the year when the coupe we have here was built, 1.12 million cars had already been assembled! The range then consists of the standard 6-cylinder model and the V8 Custom. The model here was used at the time by the police in Tijuana, Mexico.

Several generations of Charger were produced between 1966 and 1987. All of them were coupes. This name has been used by Dodge since 2006, this time for a sedan. Here we have the first Charger of this second series. This model belongs to the Police of Chile (carabinieros de Chile).

Checker started to produce taxis from the beginning of its activities in 1923 until it shut down in 2010. The famous Marathon was released in 1960. This UPS version was used in Canada from 1975, where legislation prevented this company from using its trucks. This explains why some of these Marathons had only one seat, for the driver (it is not the case here).

When renewed in 2006, the Wrangler came in a 5-door variant called Unlimited. This version offers a stretched body (53 cm/21 in.-longer), transforming the rear-seat space. The interior of the Wrangler range was updated for 2011. The trim level of the 2018 model year is called Rubicon.

The Land Rover was released in 1948 and renamed Defender in 1990. Here we have the Series IIA, launched in 1961, which succeeded the 1958 Series II with a few updates. Greenlight reproduces here the hard top station wagon variant of the short wheelbase “SWB” (88 inches) Land Rover, which can be seen in “Ace Ventura”, a film released in 1994, with Jim Carrey in the leading role.

The first-generation GT40 was produced from 1964 to 1969. A second one followed, from 2004 to 2006. The 3rd-gen GT, unveiled in January 2015 at Detroit, is made of carbon and aluminium and receives a 3.5-litre V6 with dual injection and twin turbochargers. Here we have the Heritage series launched in 2016. This 2020 model year pays tribute to the 1966 24 Hours of Daytona.

Willys provided the first Jeeps to the US Army during World War II. This brand, created in 1908 and which had bought Overland in 1912, went on producing this model after the war, both for the civilian market and the army. This M38 (a version produced from 1950) appears in the TV Series MASH produced from 1972 to 1983.
