When the 212 Inter was released in 1951, Ferrari was still a young brand, with its first cars launched in 1947. Ghia and Vignale bodied most of the 212 Inters. Pinin Farina (written in two separate words at the time), however, made 16 coupes (and two convertibles) during barely a year from December 1952. The engine is a 160 hp 2.6-litre V12.

In early 1958, at the Geneva Motor Show, Pinin Farina (in two words at the time) introduced the Skylight, an elegant study for a Cadillac coupe. A convertible followed at the following Salon de Paris. Neither of them was marketed and it even seems, without any source providing proof, that these two concept cars are in fact one and the same car, modified from one show to another.

In 1975 Jaguar replaces the famous E-Type with the XJ-S. This model eventually becomes a classic in its own right, but its design and size are initially widely criticised. In 1978, Pininfarina, where Leonardo Fioravanti works, imagines what could have been the “real” successor of the E-Type. He unveils this concept car at the Birmingham Motor Show, which is not followed up.

The Jaguar XJ, launched in 1968, received a V12 engine from 1972. The Turin-based coachbuilder Pininfarina offered to give a touch of latin characteristics to the beautiful British sedan. The technical base was preserved, but the car was totally redesigned. Introduced at the Paris Motor Show in autumn 1973, this nice concept car never gave birth to a series-produced model.

Unveiled at the 1949 Turin Auto Show, this Fiat 1100 S coupe was commonly called 1100 ES when its production started in 1950, in the same time as the 1100 E sedan. This coupe was actually a rebodied 1947 1100 S that Pininfarina updated. An excellent initiative, since 450 units were produced in 1950, as many as during the previous three years. But production stopped as soon as 1951.

Pininfarina is a regular exhibitor at the Geneva Motor Show. In March 2012, the Italian coachbuilder unveiled this stylish Cambiano, half-sedan and half-coupe, with one door on the driver's side and two on the passenger’s side (the rear one is a rear-hinged opening door). This concept car receives an electric motor in each wheel, plus a diesel engine to serve as a range extender.
