The American brand Cord is known for the L-29, the first front-wheel drive car ever produced, in 1929. This E-1, based on a huge 3.99 m/157 in- long wheelbase and equipped with a V12 (a V16 was even originally planned) instead of the original 8-cylinder, was to replace the L-29 in 1932. But it was not the right time economically to launch such a car, so the project was scratched.
